Skate Canada has developed its programing based on Sport Canada's Long Term Athlete Development (LTAD) principles.  The new CANskate Program also includes specific skills that pertain to hockey, ringette, speed skating and figure skating.  The result is a dynamic new program that prepares skaters for virtually every ice sport.

As a general rule, PreCANskate is suitable for the youngest participants, ages 3 and up, who cannot yet balance, move forward and stop.  The CANskate program essentially picks up from there and works on the basic fundamental skills of Balance, Agility and Control.  Advance CANskate is for skaters working on Stage 6 of the CANskate program.  Once skaters have completed Stage 6, they advance to the STARskate program.
